Appleton chapter of National Organization for Women holds ‘We Won’t Go Back” rally
In Appleton, supporters of women’s reproductive rights held a “We Won’t Go Back” rally at Houdini Plaza on Sunday.
The event, which also included a march, was led by members of Appleton Area NOW, the local chapter of the National Organization for Women. Organizers say the goal is to highlight key policy issues supported by NOW, including bodily autonomy, the equal rights amendment, reducing violence against women, and economic disparity.
“It’s important in a democracy for everyone to get out to vote and express their preferences. In this election we specifically believe it’s important for women to get out and vote, and for women to understand how much of our rights are on the ballot,” said Irene Strohbeen, the president of the Appleton Area NOW.
The rally also included guest speakers and music from Lawrence University students.
